Introduction to sociology
The field of sociology studies the nature, structure and dynamics of social life as well as its causes and consequences in the world. With these broad boundaries, sociology encompasses a variety of core interests, methodological approaches, and theoretical orientations. Sociologists study a variety of social phenomena, from online chats, social relationships and interactions, the family, order and conflict, to villages, neighborhoods, cities, governments and global markets. About the department
The Department of Sociology of Kurdistan University started working in 2008 with admission of master degree students under the supervision of the Department of Educational Sciences in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and in 2011 continued activities as an independent educational group in this faculty. Bachlor degree with a focus on social science research was established in 2015 with the admission of 40 students in the sociology department. This tendency was renamed to sociology in 2020, and currently, the undergraduate students are accepted under the title of sociology orientation. Following the efforts of the group members, the doctoral program in cultural sociology was approved and will be resumed in September 2022 with the admission of 5 students in the daily course of this field.
The Sociology Department now has six full-time faculty members, three of whom have associate professorship and three are assistant professors. There are currently 159 undergraduate students and 55 postgraduate students in this department. Based on the development perspective of the Department of Sociology in the horizons of 2030 and 2022, the recruitment of two new faculty members and the creation of a local development major in the master degree is envisaged. In addition to its educational and research mission within the university, the Department of Sociology plays a good role in relation to related issues and social responsibility and promotes it in parallel with other matters. |
